January 26, 1950, is the most important day of every Indian life. On this day, India got independence from the British Raj and the country’s own Indian Constitution Law came into force. The Indian Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution on 26th November 1949 but it came into force on 26th January 1950. And, then India was declared as a sovereign, democratic republic nation. The constitution of India was drafted by a drafting committee whose chairman was Dr B.R. Ambedkar.  


Republic Day is one of the three national holidays in India along with Gandhi Jayanti and Independence Day. 

Every year, people all around the country celebrate republic day by hosting a flag and also they distribute sweets and do dance performances. 

Rituals: On Republic Day, it is the ritual of having a parade in Delhi, marched by every state, showcasing their talent and strengths. This ceremony is commencing from the gates of the Rashtrapati Bhavan (the President Residence), Raisina Hill on Rajpath past the India Gate. Next, awards like the Paramvir Chakra, Ashok Chakra and Vir Chakra are presented to gallantry award winners.


The National Republic Day Parade: This day, the President of India hosts and give 21-gun salute to National Flag. After that the whole country stands for National Anthem. Then the parade function takes off in which people of different states showcase their culture and festivities. The Indian Armed force and other civil forces also take part in this parade. In the end, the best state chooses who performed well. 

In the closing session, the Indian Flying Jets beautifully create Indian flag in the sky and also sprinkle flowers on guests. One can enjoy the live telecast of the parade on television. 

Salute to the legends: January 30 is termed as Martyrs Day, to pay homage to those soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country freedom and welfare. 


It was on 30th January 1948, when Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated. Since then every year the nation pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and other legends. The President, Prime Minister along with another civil ministers, gather at Rajghat and lay garlands on the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi, decorated with flowers. A religious prayer ceremony also held, and people sang favourite Gandhiji bhajans. 

Chief Guest: On this day, the nation invites most respectable personalities from other countries as “Chief Guest”. This year, India is going to welcomed the Ten guests (Heads of ASEAN states).

Let us remember the golden heritage of our country and feel proud to be a part of India.
